Ideal Massage Practice

Let’s talk about designing your ideal massage practice

Here are some questions to help you design your ideal massage practice.

Read each question, close your eyes and imagine the answer.

Who are your ideal clients?

Who do you want to see? What ages? What are their occupations? Do they have pain?

What kind of massage or bodywork do you prefer to do?

Where do you want to work?  Why?  What is it like?

How can you get clients?

What do clients want?

What do you have to offer? Be honest about your skills and abilities but don’t be critical of yourself.

What do you think you would have to do or offer to get my clients?

 And let’s talk about money

In an ideal world you wouldn’t have to think about money but reality is that we do.

So how much will it cost to have your ideal massage business?  Here are some thoughts:

Do you have clientele elsewhere?  Are you allowed to ‘take’ them?  Will they follow you?  (Most clients will look for a different therapist closer to home if you move more than 7 miles away.)

How many clients a week would you need to pay the rent and utilities of your dream office?

How many clients a week would you need to pay all of the other expenses:  professional membership, licensing, business cards, water for clients, phone, cleaning products, etc?

How much does rental space cost?  Is it better to rent or buy?

And let’s talk about sharing your ideal massage practice

Is it a good idea?

What are the upsides?  Well, it will cost you less and you might have someone to share the chores (cleaning) with.

What are the downsides?  Well, you may have to deal with a tenant or partner who is a slob or who causes more work for you or who is late with their rent.

You can see that there are many things to think about before sharing your ideal massage space.
